Microsoft readies new Windows XP Pro antipiracy nag

Microsoft has confirmed that it will update the antipiracy software in Windows XP Professional to be able to skip any notification of impending update to the software.  Alex Kochis, a Microsoft senior product manager, has said that the antipiracy “component that provides the messages and other on-screen prompts when the other half of the package, WGA Validations, detects a pirated operating system” (Keizer, Gregg. “Microsoft readies new Windows XP Pro antipiracy nag”. ComputerWorld. (26 August 2008). 28 August 2008).  The newly updated XP Professional’s Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) compares with Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1), especially with pirated copies of the system that will display a black desktop that regresses to black after an hour if the “user changes the background”.  Forged copies will display a permanent nag notice in the bottom-right corner of the screen along with additional notices.  Before, WGA’s reminders on Windows XP were limited to one message when you log-on and then a second notice would come in the form of a balloon.  However, the desktop did not put out reminders.  For any new notifications for installations in XP Pro, the user can also have a simple EULA to “accept rather than an installation wizard”.  EULA’s been changed to allow antipiracy validation control to auto-update itself.  The “new no notification also applies to any new install of future versions of WGA Notifications”(ComputerWorld).
